[Poland is dangling from one of the structures on the playground in a position that's far more comfortable than it looks, the urge to try and talk to people having struck him during his morning walk.]

Okay, but no, like, here's what I totally don't get. Did they like, just kidnap us to hang out and play house or whatever? 'Cause for all I've heard about some war, I'm only sure this isn't some weirdo Russian plot to bore me to death 'cause he'd never be able to get Fryderyk in on something like that. And I guess 'cause Siberia is way more boring than here, not to mention there's a ton less food.

So I was thinking, like, I'd check out the rest of the enclosure. Has anyone found anything awesome out there? Like, how far can we go? Is there anywhere nobody's been to yet? 'Cause I so wanna see it if there is!

Also, I was thinking and stuff... Like, if dead people can show up here, pretty much anyone can, right? So... Like... I mean, the other nations could, too. Which would be hella rad if it was like Hungary or Italy or someone, but, um...

I guess what I'm saying is, I'm super bored anyway, so I wanna start training again!

[Also that he doesn't want to get his ass kicked if Russia or Prussia turns up.]

[In the morning, he's wandering around the village, looking for anything to keep him amused, when he spots a small structure he'd overlooked before, probably because it's between two residential buildings he rarely has any need to go to. Once he gets closer, though, he recognizes it--and just stops in his tracks for a moment, staring at it with intensity. There are stables. Which means in all likelihood there are horses, which means he will goddamn well get one somehow. A Pole without a horse is like a body without a soul, right? Maybe if he asks someone inside, they can help him figure out how to get one...

After the stables, he goes about his errands in town, dropping by the grocery store for vegetables and cheese, the bakery for some hearty, grainy bread, and then the clothing store to see if there's anything he likes. Maybe today will be the day he tries out some of those future-clothes! ]

[Frederic knew he shouldn't stay coped up even if it's winter, so he goes to the bakery intent on buying some Polish gingerbread when he spots Poland inside.]

Oh Feliks, I wasn't expecting you to be here.

[The sound of a familiar voice makes him turn, a smile on his face.]

Hey, Fryderyk! Look at you, all out of the house and stuff.

[Like he's one to talk.]

I was totally thinking cabbage rolls for dinner tonight, what do you think?

[He gives Poland a small smile as he's picking out the gingerbread.]

Well the cold and winter tend to make me ache, so I stay coped up in the house. For the cabbage rolls, I don't mind. I like them.

[When Poland enters the stable, he'll eventually come across Jean - he's in one of the stalls with his Friesian stallion Benoit, taking care of some morning chores. Refilling the grain in his feeding trough, brushing him, tidying up the place, etc. He looks like someone you should totally bother.]

[And bother him he shall!

...As soon as he, like, observes a bit. And gets his nerve up to talk to a stranger. Talking to strangers is hard, ok?

...But probably a little less weird than just, like, jealously watching over the stall wall. OKAY. Okay, he's gonna do it!]

Where'd you get that?

Oh my god, you talk like such an old man. Like, fresh air's good, right?

What do you wanna have with 'em?

[This is when he happens to be brushing Benoit's coat - and you can be sure the vain little fuck is loving it - so he glances at the stranger, then down at the brush in his hand, then back to the stranger.]

The brush or the horse?

[Poland rolls his eyes a little, slipping into the stall properly.]

Yeah, I'm just like, all about grooming brushes, right? Like, that's what's missing from my life!

Duh, the horse.

Feliks, I'm technically forty years old. I'm not exactly a spring chicken.

[You nations and your forever youth do not know what it is like to be mortal.]

That's a good question. Was there any types of deserts you wanted?

Pfft, whatever, it's not that old, is it? I mean, look at you.

[He pats his cheek gently, then turns to look at the sweets, nearly bouncing with excitement.]

We can get whatever, right? What about, like... Poppyseed rolls?

How was I supposed to know? You're the one who came up and asked that out of nowhere...! [Shit, he thought maybe you owned one of the other horses in the stable or something. Fuck you. He pats the horse's shoulder.]

He was a little gift from the Malnosso. [Said in such a way to make his distrust clear and sharp.]

[Poland doesn't trust the Malnosso that much more, though he's inclined to give them some sort of benefit of the doubt for getting him away from Russia and Prussia (and Austria, who is less of a pain than the others but still a pain). He makes a little face, as he leans against the wall.]

Can you like, ask them for one or something? What's the catch?

It was for that weird holiday last month, Christmas, apparently. [And the catch was his dignity.]

Didn't you get something too? My roommate got a lamb. [He has no idea what sorts of presents other people around the village received, though.]

You seriously don't have Christmas where you're from? God, that's like, super sad.

I mean, yeah, I got something, but it wasn't that big or cool! What gives with that?

Yeah, a freakin' tragedy. [Much worse than the gruesome human-eating giants.]

And it beats me. Take it up with the Malnosso. [Except he thinks he knows why he ended up with such an impressive gift, when he thinks back to the tally marks that had accumulated in the front of his journal during all that mistletoe business. But he's not going to explain that to some stranger.]

[He pouts a little before sighing. Oh Poland.]

Poppyseed rolls sound delicious. I haven't had those for a long while now.

[In fairness, he doesn't actually know about those.] You have no idea. Like, Christmas here is way less cool than Christmas at my place, but it's better than not having it at all!

...Ugh, that sucks, and I'm totally gonna talk to them about it. Where do you even find them? I haven't gone for a ride in months, it's mega lame!

Rad. And like, some rye bread? For breakfast, or the next time we make soup or whatevs? I got these beets at the other shop, they look so good, we could totally make, like, barszcz with the little dumplings in it...

[Look, winter makes him hungry, ok? Besides, he looks so happy.]

[Richard is no stranger to the clothing store. In fact, he makes a trip there about once a week just to check out what's new-- it's hard not to when there's a constant influx of new items from all sorts of different worlds. (His wardrobe at home might have expanded beyond the bounds of his closet because of this, but that's beside the point.)

And oh, that striped top on the rack there looks nice and comfortable... he'll take it off the rack and hold it up to himself, as if pondering whether or not it will look good on him.

Care to offer an opinion, Feliks?]

[Feliks is nearby, turning over a corset in his hands. It looks like it's designed as outerwear, which seems impossibly scandalous until he thinks about how half the women here dress. There's a similar one on a mannequin nearby, worn over a short-sleeved shirt with a comfortingly high neckline and a knee-length skirt with a tantalizing amount of ruffles... He's just about to start looking for something similiar to try the corset on with, when he spots another shopper.]

[He might have seen him around the clothing store once or twice before, and maybe that gives him the little boost of confidence to speak to a stranger.]

You're thin enough to pull off the stripes. I guess it'd look kinda good with the pants on that table?

[Wow Poland, you're going to get fat from all that food.]

We should cook it for everyone in the house together. Though I'm not an expert in the kitchen.

Polish food is too awesome to mess up. You totally can't go wrong, am I right?

[Of course he's right! And wow rude, he's a nation, do you know how much a whole nation can eat without getting fat?]

Well of course not, Feliks. But you're more likely the expert on cooking than I am.

[Really, he sucks at cooking. He had to have people make everything for him.]

Well, like, age and experience, right?

[Who's an old man, again? He grins, picking up a loaf of bread to go with that soup later.]

If you were as old as me, maybe you'd kick ass at it, too!

[More so, probably, considering how very intently Feliks tends to avoid doing work when there are other people to do it.]

I don't know if a human is able to live that long.

[He sounds so matter of factual.]

But still, I suppose you're right.
